Rush Concert 8-28-07 Detroit

Well it was my 5th time seeing Rush in concert last night. Again I was not disappointed at all. They played at the DTE Music Center which I will always call Pine Knob as it was originally known as. I had decent seats, not as good as some people I know who were second row! Everyone always talks about how talented Geddy Lee is, and we all know Neil Peart is the greatest drummer in the world. Alex Lifeson on the other hand I think is underappreciated or under hyped. The man is technically sound and a borderline virtuoso. He is one of the greatest guitar players ever. Last night he was right on and really in the zone.

The only disappointment I had, was that the intermission seemed longer than usual, but it was 20 minutes, so that was not too bad. Their new stuff is very good, with some funky bass lines and some really good progressive jams. Every song was right on, with the exception of Tom Sawyer. It figures, their signature song and it was off. At first I was wondering if was by design to slow it up a bit, but then I realized Geddy and Alex were looking at each other as if something was wrong. Maybe their monitors were on the fritz or something.

Here is the set list from the show:
Limelight
Digital Man
Entre Nous
Mission
Freewill

The Main Monkey Business
The Larger Bowl
Secret Touch
Circumstances
Between the Wheels

Dreamline
Video Intro
Far Cry
Workin' Them Angels
Armor And Sword
Spindrift
The Way the Wind Blows
Subdivisions
Natural Science
Witch Hunt
Malignant Narcissism

Drum Solo
Hope
Distant Early Warning
The Spirit of Radio
Tom Sawyer
One Little Victory
A Passage to Bangkok

YYZ

If you've never seen RUSH, you should. They are that good. The one thing you'll find at a RUSH show is that 90% of the audience is either engineers or musicians. That should tell you something about their style and influence. And Greg was right, Geddy hit all the high notes!

ANTHEM!
