It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. When I first heard about the Winter Classic I immediately was against it being on New Year's Day. I assumed Gary Bettman was instituting another clueless gimick that would not work for the NHL. Who is going to watch hockey when all those football games are on?
Well I was wrong. This years 2nd Annual game between the Blackhawks and Red Wings was great. Having it at Wrigley Field was cool. I don't know how it was in person, but I'll ask some friends who went there. I doubt it wasnt that great in person. On TV, it was very cool. A very good game too with the Wings winning 6 to 4.
I like the idea and look forward to it happening more often actually. 41,000 people attended the game, and that's great. Great for hockey. Singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game was a nice touch. The Air Force jets fly over, gave it a Super Bowl feel. the weather was perfect, and the Red Wing Nation was there in full force.
How about Tiger Stadium next year? Or Fenway Park?
Go Wings
Uh, dude, did you really mean Tiger Stadium? Seating would be sparse. ;-) I actually thought they could've sold out Soldier Field, but wanted to go North Side trendy. For next year, I'm guessing on 1. Fenway, or 2. New Yankee. I'll put my take on the game up on Monday. Cheers...
ReplyDeleteI do mean Tiger Stadium. You can then have temporary seating in the outfield area, making it very close for the fans. Yeah I'm talking bleachers, but when it's that cold...do you really care about what you are sitting on?
