For years I've complained about people usings "LOL" or "ROFLMAO" or any other internet lingo. It just bothers me. It bothers many of my friends as well. I will most often not even respond to those that use LOL after they make a comment. My new pet peeve is using "@", which means you are direction a response AT a certain person in a thread with multiple people.
This is from brother Tim on the use of LOL.
First of all, no one is actually laughing out loud. Second of all, when the recipient responds lol he/she is indicating that the sender's wit is so lame that the recipient actually has to confirm that they got the joke ... or the sender feels the need to confirm their own cleverness by indicating that they are laughing at their own wit ... or they aren't sure what they wrote will be percieved as witty unless they tag it as such. Third, why would I want to use the same expression that every dimbulb on the planet uses? Have I no originality? Have I no words that more accurately express the degree of my amusement?
Most people have about as much individualism as cattle, really.
[If this makes you laugh out loud, then laugh just laugh out loud. You can tell me you thought it was funny, but please please don't use LOL. This was @ you by the way.]
