Sports: My Red Wings

This season unlike any other season I decided to do something different while following the Red Wings. I decided I wouldn't routinely judge or critique them openly until the season was finally over. I would not worry about how they did or get upset when they lost. In fact not one game really upset me or made me feel great, because I wanted to wait till the last game. The day of Game 7, I was a mess. People has me for predictions. All I could give them was this: Nervousness, anxiety, anxious, nausea. That's all I could predict. Well now it's over and I have a few things I need to say.

As disappointed I am that they lost, I am not allowing myself to be really bummed. I chalk this up to be being a former Lions season ticket holder, and being in denial about defeat makes life easier to handle. Perspective is everything you know. The reality doesn't change of course that those pesky Penquins are Stanley Cup Champs but I need to deal with it. Were the Penquins a better team? On paper, no. Their record, no. However their coach clearly out coached ours, and their role players rose up to the occasion. I am not taking anything away from Pittsburgh, or want to come across as a sore loser. The beauty of hockey is that execution decides who wins. It's not heart, it's not talent, it's not luck. It's execution. Talent, heart, luck..that all plays a role, but in this case the Penquins properly executed their game plans and controlled the Wings. The better playing team won. It's that simple.

As for the Wings, they did not play well. Injuries to Lidstrom and Datsyuk surely played a factor, but that is not an excuse. That's part of the game. I could go on and say things that everyone else is saying, so I'll just leave it with a few random thoughts about the season, and the series. You can't blame the officials either, even though they were horrible for both teams.

- Gary Bettman is a joke. He has to go. I don't know how, but he has to go. I'm tired of him. Screw the owners who support this clown. The NHL has no credibility.

- I do not like or respect Sidney Crosby. The fact he didn't shake hands after the game proves my point. I don't care what his reason is, it's bush, and he SUCKS. Bettman is happy as hell his poster child is a champion, but real hockey fans could care less.

- Malkin is the best player in the league. Ovechkin has the most talent, but I'd start a franchise around Malkin. He just needs to be more respectful. He's still a punk. Maybe this Cup will elevate him to a new level in that regard. Talent wise, he's the man. Not sure he deserved the Smythe trophy, but whatever.

- Hudler must go. I have never seen anything in this guy.

- Goodbye Maltby and Draper. It was a good ride while it lasted. I would have played Leno and Abdekator over them.

- Amazing how Brad Stuart can play so well, yet make 3 huge mistakes in Game 7.

- Kudos to Chelios. Class Act.

- I can't stand when people say the Penquins were hungrier. This is why I don't talk sports with...well you know.

- Holmstrom was invisible. Time to cut ties with him too.

- The Penquins were ranked 10th in the East, before they got their new coach. What does that tell you?

- NHL Officiating is a joke.

- Helm was useless in the last round. I like him though and the way he plays. He needs more seasoning.

- Osgood is a Hall of Fame goaltender and played great. He was not the reason the Wings lost.

- Is there anything more annoying than when people say about their losing teams " you played great and we are proud of you"? SHUT UP with that crap. If you played great, you would have won. Second place is the first to lose and no one remembers you or cares.

- The Wings depend too much on Lidstrom, and he's getting slow.

- NBC coverage was horrible! Thank God for CBC.

- Joe Louis Arena is a pit, and they need a new arena. It's old, ugly, and not fun.

- I can't stand the cheer of "Let's Go Red Wings!". It's like typing LOL. Can we get any less creative? Boring and dumb. Let's come up with a fight song. Christ does anyone watch European soccer fans? Now they get it.

- I've pretty much removed myself from all things SLAPPY when it comes to the Red Wings. That is, I don't watch pregame or post game shows, because I don't care about the player's childhood; I dont care what he does on the plane, I don't care what video games he plays. What a complete waste of time. If he ain't scoring, I don't want to know anything about him. Keep it all on the ice.

- Everyone loves Erickson. My problem with him is, when he makes a mistake it's usually pretty freaking bad. Like hardly moving to block a shot in game 6. Block the shot, and the series changes.

- Hossa thinking he couldn't win the Cup with Pittsburgh came back to bite him. Oh well that's usually how it goes when Euro punks speak before they think. He didn't do much in the playoffs, I doubt he'll return.

- Zetterberg and Datsyuk. The Red Wings need another player like these guys or they will not get a chance to fend for the Cup. A tall order, but true.

- I've seen every Stanley Cup hoisted since 1976. This is the first one I did not watch. The fact it was Crosby and my disdain for Bettman just made me not care.

I love summer time.
