Liberty: Always Connected
I heard some freaky stat the other day that there are only 223 Million people out of 309 million in the U.S. on the Internet. I thought the number would be higher, but I guess not. I also heard that 50 percent of businesses do not have a web presence. Now that really surprised me. Who are these people that aren't online? We can't possibly have that many politicians!
How can a business not be online? I don't get it. How do they hire people? How do they promote their brand? I suppose their some super duper double secret weapon and spy companies that just don't need the pr. But 50 percent? What year is this anyways?
I've also come in contact recently with more people who don't even have an email account. Now that baffles me. I do suppose they are the people keeping the Postal Service in business. I also have friends and associates who do not check their email at least once a day. What? Yes it's true...they'll check it every few days or once a week. I tell these people to check their email often, because I hate waiting! They reply "Well if you need me, you know how to get me." No. I emailed you because that is your email address. Use it. There's a reason you have it, use it.
Lately I've been asked often to set up Facebook pages for businesses, Twitter accounts, and static web pages. So I know many want to be online and connected and they see the value. I also get many requests a day to join my Facebook or Linkedin accounts too. I'm averaging between 10 and 20 requests per day. These people get it.
If you are reading this (thanks!) then you get it too. You are either getting this via RSS, email, Twitter, Friendfeed, Myspace or Facebook. You understand the simplicity of it all. You get it. Do your friends get it? Does your company get it?
