Truth: My Favorite Christmas Flicks
I've seen many Christmas movies. Here is my list, not in order of the ones I really like. I'm sure as usual I'm missing something good; but that's where you come in to remind me..or at least recommend something to me.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946) - I don't watch this every year, which probably keeps it fresh for me. Great story, and I'm a Jimmy Stewart fan. There's something very believable about him, especially in this classic.
A Christmas Story (1983) - When they show the 24 marathon on TBS every Christmas, I probably watch this 12 times. I fell in love with this movie the very first time I saw it. It never gets old for me.
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965 - TV) - I love the simplicity of it; but more so I'm a fan of the music. My brother has a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree by the way in his living room. He denies it, but everyone knows it to be true.
Elf (2003) - I'm not a Will Ferrell fan for the most part, but I did like this movie and enjoy it. Unfortunately it's pretty predictable, but I'm ok with some holiday fluff, and this fits right in. The snowball fight is something I've day dreamed about since I was a kid.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) - I didn't care for he Jim Carrey version, but this cartoon is classic. It's only 26 minutes, but what a great story. Surely the best theme song ever. You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel!
The Polar Express (2004) - I'm so not a Tom Hanks fan, and I think the fact he is in it makes me not want to watch it. However when I saw this for the first time I was very impressed. It's a great story with even greater special effects. I'm still not sure if this is a classic because it's good, or because it's forced fed to us. I'm still judging this actually.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) - Randy Quaid makes the movie, sorry. The lights on the roof - been there!
A Christmas Carol (1999) - This was for television and starred one of my favorite actors Patrick Stewart. He was absolutely brilliant.
A Christmas Carol (1984) - George C. Scott was brilliant in this one. Totally believable as Scrooge. When he sees Marley's Ghost, it still gets me.
A Christmas Carol (2009) - In 3d. Jim Carrey is great in all the part of this soon to be classic. If you haven't seen it, please do so. Sure you know the story by now, but in 3d?...come on...love it. All movies should be in 3d!
While we are down memory lane, who remembers this animated version? I grew up on this one:
Miracle on 34th Street (1947) - Some people like the beauty of this movie. For me, Santa creeps me out. I studied this film back in college from a shooting standpoint. I still look at it technically. So it makes my list. Black and whites are great I might add.
The Santa Clause (1994) - I guess there's like 3 or 4 of these out there. I don't know, but the first two were pretty good. Not enough to see the others one. Darn it, I hate sequels. Why ruin a good thing?
Home Alone (1990) - Simple, slapstick nonsense. I can't stand the annoying spoiled brat kid, but Pesci makes the film. Good stuff.
Frosty The Snowman (1969) - Burl Ives scares the hell out of me, but I liked this old classic. =it reminds me of my childhood.
Scrooged (1988) - Anything Bill Murray is good in my book. Not great, but it had some funny moments.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) - It's a good kid flick. Timeless.
Three movies I did not see yet:
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) -
Bad Santa (2003) -
Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas) (2005) -
