Truth: What Do You Do?

When natural or man-made disasters hit, like the earthquake in Haiti I can't help but feel totally helpless. It's frustrating to watch people suffer and die. I can't imagine all the pain and suffering they are going through.

Haiti's population is something like 80% at poverty level, where the average person makes $2 a day. Hard to comprehend how such a place can exist like that. Why does a country in such shambles economically exist and continue to exist in it's current state? I just don't get it.

When things like this hit, the first think I do naturally is feel awful. I watch quite a bit of news to take it all in, so I can get an understanding of things. I get that "taking care of business" feeling where I tie up loose ends. I stock up on food and supplies. I check the perimiter of my dwelling before I to sleep. I do all of those things to be prepared. I was a scout once ya know...it never leaves you.

So you can send money to a charity. You can give blood. You can even get on a plane, go to Haiti and help (while also hogging up resources they probably don't have). What do you do?

I remember when 9/11 hit. A part of me wanted to sign up for the military and fight. The other part of me wanted to pack it all in and go Up North away from it all. This earthquake wants me to pack it all up and take off. I think when you are in highly populated areas, stuff like this is bound to happen sooner or later...at least in the back of your mind.

What do you do?
