Liberty: Crazy Libertarian
My run in with a Progressive. Enjoy!
Progressive: Your crazy a*s view of politics makes my head spin.
HockeyDino: Name one thing about my politics that is crazy.
Progressive: I don't believe we have a nation of great parents and we have social and moral responsibilities to protect kids.
HockeyDino: We do have social and moral responsibilities…but not by the govt. Else, that is SOCIALISM.
Progressive: People will ultimately work for their own benefit.
HockeyDino: THEY SHOULD. Ever hear of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Great concepts.
Progressive: We would eventually ruin ourselves if there was no governing body to intervene.
HockeyDino: Wrong. The govt intervening now is the problem. A mixed economy is what is hosing us.
Progressive: No judicial system, no laws, etc. It would simply never work and you are naïve if you believe it would.
HockeyDino: You are assuming I want anarchy. I don't. I want limited government.
Progressive: National Security cannot be left to individual people to figure out, all while doing their own thing to deal with it.
HockeyDino: That's the job of the military. I would never say otherwise.
There needs to be a body to centralize plans
HockeyDino: Central Planning fails on every single level. This is not the USSR, not matter how bad you want it to be that way.
Progressive: And be aware of those people who may be too weak to protect themselves (Elderly, handicap etc)
HockeyDino: Yes because the govt is doing what to help them now that a private entity would not do better? Nothing.
Progressive: People cannot deal with long term problems, they would run to quick fixes and it would end up in the greatest civil war you have ever seen.
HockeyDino: Civil war is where we are heading now due to government intervention. The founding fathers would be turning over in their graves if they read what you are saying.
Every single one of you reading this knows I'm right. It's ok that we agree.

Truth: Greed Is Good Gekko
My good friend ConservaChris comes to me all the time with the latest facts and figures from the impending chaos that looms in this very world we live in. "Troubling Times" he says.
Our discussion is usually on the recession, the economy, oil spills, unemployment, immigration, government inefficiency, liberalism, fascism, socialism, tea parties, health care, terrorism...etc. As you can see, we just can't seem to fit in our American Idol or Dancing With The Stars banter. Oh were does the time go?
ConservaChris is very scared and worried. All this bad news, all this cluelessness in the population is coming to a head. I'm more optimistic than he is though. [insert record skip]. What? Yes it's true. He seems to think the bottom is going to fall out soon. I think those at play, the powers that be won't let it happen...despite the fact they are at fault for it. They (the banks, fed reserve, the money players, goldman sachs, congress, the elite rich, etc) still need to exist and despite how bad things are and can become, I just have that ounce of hope they can salvage things before it's too late.
Now what is that hope based on? It's based on greed. Greed got them into this mess. Greed can get us out. Do you follow me? Now I always say that greed is good, but when we are talking greed in this context, I am not. The greed that crippled this nation along with corporatism is not good. Greed though that makes the world go around is very good. That good greed needs to be harnessed and utilized; most of all respected by those in power. Once that respect is given, we can then mend the nation.
Too many people give credence to saying prosperity and wealth is bad. Especially the creation of wealth. It is not, never has been, and never will be a bad thing. Unshackle the chains to those seeking prosperity. Shackle those greedy (bad) how take advantage of the weak, the meek, and the poor.
Will you support liberty on all fronts?
Troubling times indeed.

Truth: Taming The Liberal Shrew
I just got a scathing email from Jason the Argonaut who flat out called me a Neo-con for supporting the Tea Party, conservative rhetoric, and Fox News. He said that I was just as guilty for playing on the right as those who were playing on the left - like some sports game where you pick sides. That I was adding to the success of that game.
GRUNT
That ticked me off, and I wrote back a bunch of swear words. Calling me a Neo-con is a low blow. Not as bad as the D word, but still.
GRUNT
That whole day I spent rechecking anti-obama emails sent to me by those people who didn't bother to check with Snopes. For the record, before you ever send anything at least check with Snopes - else you are wasting time. So I got 2 anti-obama emails, and it turns out they were not entirely true.
Does some right wing nut job decide to make these up somewhere, then send them out knowing full well most people will just forward them without checking?....thus the damage is done. Perception becomes reality. First impressions are everything, especially for people who refuse to thing for themselves.
GRUNT
Then I get into this debate with some loon who thinks Abraham Lincoln was a great man. Are you kidding me? Truly another public school recipient who doesn't know the truth. Lincoln was not a good man or president. He was a greedy tyrant who acted like a King. He was a power monger, and he was responsible for over 600,000 Americans for losing their lives! He proceeds to call me a liberal for not agreeing with him on how great Lincoln was. The civil war was not about slavery. Educated yourself.
GRUNT
That's twice this week someone has called me a liberal. That's like the C word.

Truth: American Midol
What's my problem with American Idol? I just don't get how popular it is. I understand the Gong Show (I do miss that show) aspect at the early parts of the season as being funny. However those that can't sing, know full well they can't and it's contrived. Wow such trickery.
I like music, I like classic rock. I just don't like Super Bowl type hyped up displays of music - set with dancers and lip syncers. I am also no fan of parading out rock dinosaurs so they can get some extra sales and hits to their websites. (SELL OUTS!).
Am I really one to comment on a show I never watch? I guess the bigger question is do I have to watch the show in order to comment on it. No. I've seen enough and heard enough to know it's contrived. I can't handle contrived anything. That's my issue with the Olympics, with Super Bowl half time shows, award shows, with entertainment shows on TV. With hand picked artists, and hand picked songs.
I've seen enough coverage through channel surfing, the news, and the talk on the radio to know enough about it.
It's not my thing, never will be.
Some guys like fake, I prefer real.

A.D.D. Rumblings No. 52710
1. I like to ride behind motorcycles and watch how they say hello to other bikers that drive by. When they put their fist or hand down to each other. Sometimes I think they just ride to say hello to each other. I like that.
2. When you are driving down the highway observing Americana, you are bound to pass by a run down sleazy looking motel. You always see at least a few cars there. Ever wonder who stays at these places and what they are doing? I wonder what that high priced BMW is doing at the Wonder Motel in the middle of the afternoon?
3. I find it fascinating the amount of things that accumulate over time in a house through the years. There has to be a rule that for every new thing in, two old things must go.
5. It's sad all the attacks on Rand Paul for his free market and pro liberty stance. The liberal media will do all that it can to put people on the spot to embarrass them. Then the next wave of comedians from the Hollywood Left has their field day. By then, it's common knowledge (whether true or false) to the populous. This is how they then see a person in the spotlight. It's a sad and silly routine.
4. I've never been stung by a bee. Which considering how sweet I am, it's very odd I don't have a swarm of bees hovering over me 24/7. An oddity of nature for sure.
6. The former Mayor of Detroit has been sentences from 1 to 5 years in jail for violating his probation. When the news broke out of this, many people laughed and cheered. I didn't. It's not that I like or respect the guy, I don't. I think he's a tool who hurt many people. I just find no satisfaction in him going to prison. Because he will always be a tool, and those that support him still think and exist in the same fashion. I'm not optimistic it sends the right message to them. The whole thing is sad.
[This blog is brought to you by the word cobalt and the number 36]
7. There's a national push by police departments across the country to get people who drive without a seat belt. A money grab. So does crime decrease when seat belts tickets are issued? The whole thing is a joke. For all you that support these trite laws, you are hurting the economy. People need to buy products, not pay for tickets. Products make the economy grow, not fulfilling police ticket quotas. Why isn't anyone paying attention?
8. It saddens me the amount of kids that don't know how to throw a baseball. The fields are empty, the game is dying. I love baseball. We need baseball.
9. People that live by airports can't be healthy. All that jet fuel that falls on them...and noise? How do they do it? I wonder if they shout all of the time when they speak?
10. My friend Holder of the Truth, put this message out on Facebook: "It's summertime kill the TV". Seriously, how could anyone disagree with that? I've got my Sunday Night Baseball, then Breaking Bad. It's the only TV I need. Kill your TV, make the world a better place. Ya know.

Truth: Liberal Hugs
There's this guy that I know through the Internet. This guy drives me freaking nuts with his liberal quotes and commentary. I can handle the liberal stuff since it's very much alive and well everywhere. I can't though handle that he never ever replies to my questions or concerns to his points.
Why? I figure out for the most part it's because he posts on Twitter, then it flies down to Facebook where I see it. So I will reply, and he doesn't bother. The other part of it, is that he for the most part is a pacifist, not in the peacenik sort of way; but in the "I don't want to argue" sort of way. He doesn't reply, attack, respond, debate, anything. It's troll like.
The worst part is, he'll throw out these lies, and his crony followers just flock to his words as if he were John the Baptist pontificating to the Corinthians.
I'm not here to make friends or pacify their misguided liberal tendencies and philosophy. Liberals can go hug trees for all I care. Spare me the camaraderie stuff.
I'm not here to make enemies either. I respect an honest discussion. I just have to find them, because they are hard to come by without getting attacked left and right.
I also get people telling me that I should agree more with people I don't agree with.
WHAT?!
It's weird, the more I research, read, and learn about the principles of capitalism and conservatism I get fired up and inspired. Then I see trolls come out of the wood work and I'm taken back by it. It's disheartening and inspiring at the same time. What a dilemma.

Truth: Observing Excitement
Often I run into people that are just so excited about this or that. It's very hard for me to get excited too. I'll acknowledge their excitement; wish them well and genuinely I am happy that they are having fun. However I don't share that excitement or really understand.
It's rare that that feelings transfers over to me. Do I feel guilty? Not at all. In fact I feel as though I Have to force myself to feel excited.
It's something that bothers me. Yet at the same time, I know when I'm apart of something it's impossible to share or convey that excitement to someone else based on my personal experience.
I don't know, I think it somewhat tarnishes the excitement when I know I can't share it. How often does someone try share in their joy and I just look at them with a smile not really getting it. Maybe it's just me...I don't know. It's not that I don't want to care, I really do. I just don't. I don't think it's just a choice either.
Yet seeing the excitement of a little kid opening a gift, now that's infectious. What's the difference between adults and children when it comes to sharing excitement? I'm thinking that with children it's because it's so unconditional and genuine. With adults, I don't trust you.
I need to lighten up, or not.

Liberty: Immigration Idiots
The members of congress gave a standing ovation to the president of Mexico. Why? Because he lectured congress on how we should handle immigration and he lashed out on how Arizona is handling illegal immigration. A state were 70% of its population supports their new law by the way.
So congress, the most out of touch members of society, applaud this guy. A foreigner, who is responsible for millions of illegals leaving his country and into ours. Now why are they leaving his country?
Perhaps we should lecture the president of Mexico to get a clue. We also need to lecture our congress on how to treat foreign guests who try to lecture us. Especially when their laws are completely different. He smacks of hypocrisy.
It makes me sick when members of congress become teammates of each other, rather than standing up for something right or for good. You don't have to agree with Arizona, but you don't agree with someone who is undermining our economy and who is lecturing us. It's more of the apologize for American train that the democrats have been so hell bent on riding.
You want to fix immigration? Give those wanting to come over an opportunity to work here legally, learn our language, our history and then they can try to become a citizen. Only if though, there are jobs available. I'm not talking under the counter or government jobs either. I mean, they need to wait in line for real jobs before they can come over. There are jobs for these people, let's just do it right. That's all.
Countries have borders for a reason. My anarchist friends will point out the flaw of my support for my borders no doubt. That's fine, I'm an idealist too...but realistically borders for now aren't going away. So let's make it work properly.
I enjoyed this speech by Congressman McClintock. I thought it was great.

...It is highly inappropriate for the President of Mexico to lecture Americans on American immigration policy, just as it would be for Americans to lecture Mexico on its laws.
It is obvious that President Calderon does not understand the nature of America or the purpose of our immigration law. ..."

Truth: My Sense of Life
Just stop and smell the roses.
Listen to the rain.
Feel the wind run through your hair.
Look at the pretty flowers.
I can't say that I do these things with any regularity, or even that I like to hear them said. They are so simple and yet so cliche. In fact it's nauseating to hear or read over and over. I don't know why either exactly. I am not a fan of forced niceness I suppose. I'm not one to follow inspirational posters or quotes just because they exist either.
Lately though over the last few years, when it comes to nature I've become more aware of how natural things grow and look. I am more aware how they appear. I'm talking about landscapes, trees, plants, and flowers. How people tend to these things.
With this observation, I have this yearning inside to be outside more and more. This unquenchable desire to hang out somewhere up north and explore. I respect anyone who maintains a great garden or has immaculate landscaping. They are the keepers of beauty. Which I believe we need more of.
I have this impending need also to be by they water. Whether the ocean or a lake. There's something innately perfect about it. I can't help but assume that there lies some deep ancestral link that goes to my Sicilian roots...where many in the past were just fisherman who spend all day on the Ionian Sea catching octopus and fresh calamari.
There's a great quote from the movie the Big Night from Pascal: Bite your teeth into the ass of life
That's it.

Truth: Take A Chance On Me
My friend Saul Divorcee believe that we meet everyone for a pre-determined reason. I questioned that. I asked him and quite few people to explain this to me.
None really could, expect it was all based on faith or personal experiences. I'm OK if people don't have the tools to explain their experiences or feelings as frustrating as that may be. I get it, I understand that things are often hard to explain or rationalize.
They truly believe in some magical mystical component of fate that is out of some grand designed plan. Perhaps God is pulling all the strings and when it's time to meet someone, you then have your soulmate. You then have your friend. You then have this connection that is divine.
Who am I to say no to God and his divinity? I'm not saying no. I'm asking though how does a 7 year old girl get accidentally shot by a Detroit Police Officer in a raid fall into a pre-determined plan?
It can't.
If you believe there is a right purpose for everyone to meet, then you must concede and believe there is a wrong purpose at play as well.
It can't.
We meet people out of choice, out of chance. The choice of nature, the choice of others before us, the choice you have in your control. Everything happens for a reason, and that reason is based on the logic of choice.
God wouldn't want you to think any other way about it. You make the choice to fall in love. You make the choice to connect, to trust, to do things. You don't make the choice when a drunk driver hits your car. You don't make the choice when a coworker sneezes on you. You don't make a choice when lightning strikes you.
People come in to your life. It's up to you to make it work. To trust or not to trust. To grow or not. To nurture or not. Some people will share the same sentiments and experiences as you. Some will choose to like you, some will choose to discard you. Some will keep you at arms length. Some will take a chance.
Take a chance on me.
Joe Rudi

You don't make the choice when a drunk driver hits your car. You don't make the choice when a coworker sneezes on you. You don't make a choice when lightning strikes you.
People come in to your life. It's up to you to make it work. To trust or not to trust. To grow or not. To nurture or not. Some people will share the same sentiments and experiences as you. Some will choose to like you, some will choose to discard you. Some will keep you at arms length. Some will take a chance.
Take a chance on me.

-Absolutely excellent writing Dino! Loved it and you are so right, the government has no role, really, in compassion. Truthfully, I am already resenting, but that is another email.
-Nice blog, Dino. I agree. Ernie on the radio was all he really meant to me, but it was so much a part of those growing up days? Strange to think that he was not only an integral part of my Summers but, before there was me, my Dad's! Makes me feel old somehow, and yet in possession of a past experience that I believe is enviable.
-The best for me was when Ernie described ' ...here's Kaline coming around third ' scoring the winning run at Tiger Stadium in September '68. The night 'we' won the American League Pennant. Notice I said 'we'...that's how he made the games feel. It wasn't a just bunch of atheletes playing a kids' game. It was rather the whole Tiger organization, the city, the fans every where, all of us for a brief moment... together.
-Your resistance~ unwillingness~ flat-out-refusal to find things funny, tolerate or accept things, cracks the hell out of me... seriously... You're a kick!
-THAT's the best question you had; "who are you kidding"? The guys that didn't show are all Pussy-Whipped wimps. If they aren't spending the day with their MOTHER, it IS MOTHER'S DAY not wife's day, they are wimps for not attending.
Women reasonable and logical to your requests?? What's up with that insane idea? When are women logical or reasonable? Do they request you allow them to piss away thousands during their lifetime at the hairdresser, generally on ridiculous hairstyles? No, but that's what they do. And let me remind you of their monthly insanity. And why are you requesting you be allowed to do something? Are you a big boy or not?
Practice for a team sport is a given; it's a team and needs coordination. If you are on the team and a practice is scheduled, BE THERE, or park your ass on the bench.

A.D.D. Rumblings No. 52010
1. I noticed the latest trend on Facebook is to yell (type) some one's name. JOHN! MARY! PAUL! RON! KELLY! Oh my God...stop it. Every friggin time I see this I cringe. Get a friggin clue you uninteresting and boring people. If only they had a filter for this.
2. I recently got On-Demand options for my cable TV package. I noticed there is a delay through the digital box compared to the raw feed I have in another room. This bothers me, because I now know that everything I'm watching live is at least 5 seconds behind real time. I feel pimped.
3. I would love to face a major league pitcher. My buddy got to face Jim Abbott before. He said it was just too fast. I don't think I'd strikeout, as I'd probably scream like a little girl after the first pitch, then flat line.
5. I saw a news segment the other day where these female talk show hosts on TV decided to do the entire show with no makeup. They decided to show what they looked like, and it was all started by Rosie O'Donnell who suggested it. I've still feel nauseous just thinking about it, and I haven't eaten in 3 days after seeing it.
4. I have a friend who admits that he is reading the Twilight series. I have revoked his man card until further notice.
6. I have found a new love, and it's called honey. It's addicting. I'm not sure if there any bad effects from eating it, but I do know about the good things that can come from it. I had no idea there were different kinds of honey either. Honey, I'm home.
7. I love the smell of coffee but I never drink it. Why? Because there is nothing good that comes out of caffeine, and I'd be flat broke if I took up that vice. But the smell of coffee, with some hazelnut and vanilla puts me in a coma - good stuff.
[This blog is brought to you by the word "I" and the number 275]
8. I have family, teammates, and friends who unsubscribe from my blog. They don't know that I know when they do, since I get a notification. Which makes it odd when I see them, because they don't know it ticks me off and I take it personal. They don't know that I know. Should I call them out? I confronted a person the other day about it with the silent treatment. They then figured out what the deal was. of course they didn't sign back up. !$%(!*&$%(!!9. I always wonder what the next fad or trend will be. Piercings, tattoos, mullets, parachute pants, grunge clothes.. etc. I'm always curious as to how these things start, and why. Tell me.
10. I always make a point of trying to not use the word I often when making my points. These Rumblings had 10 instances of me starting off with a post of I. Is that just narcissistic or just an i-full?

Dear HockeyDino 51910
Dear HockeyDino,
My daughter is very outgoing and fun in school. Her teachers adore her. She is the "leader of the pack" in most social settings. She has so many friends I can barely keep track of her social calendar and she is only in first grade! She excels in everything she does- school, sports, games, anything! Sometimes it is embarrassing when I am with parents of other kids.
My son is also fun, but tends to be more quiet and watchful of things with no real close friends that I can see, but just sort of floats around. He claims to have consistent friends at recess that he plays with, but I cannot always trust that he tells the truth because I think he has figured out that he can say the things "people want to here" and avoid further uncomfortable conversation. He suffers from serious ADD. She is on a great deal of medication daily for issues combined with her ADD medication. All of this effects her mood, personality and learning abilities.
A few days ago my daughter came home with 2 different birthday party invitations for this weekend. My son is crushed and does not understand why he cannot go. Furthermore, he asked me how come he never gets invited to parties. I was crushed when he asked me this and continues to be crushed every time I think about it. It just makes me want to cry.
How do I handle these situations with my son? I suspect this will continue for a while.
Thanks,
Crushed

Dear Crushed,
Well it sucks being the odd ball out. You are talking to one right here. A life time of that stuff doesn't make you stronger, it makes you hate people. And I hate people! Be sad your son will hate people, but be happy knowing he's very special. The ADD ones are the best. They think outside of the box because they are outside of the box.
I'd be upset with the stupid idiot parents who don't think about these things. Don't blame the kids, or be crushed. You can also be happy I might add about not having to spend useless coin on a gift the kids won't care about or remember in a few weeks too. Ok...maybe not.
Don't be crushed that your kid is different. Your kid is unique, so it's up to you to corral that uniqueness and throw some very cool wild party that blows away the other ones. Make it something to remember. Clowns, ponies, Batman (I'm no longer available to appear as Batman, as I am now Iron Man - FYI), fireworks, the whole nine yards.

Truth: I Hate Country Music
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Howdy! I'm not a fan of country music y'all. I can't get passed the fact that it all sounds the same. Perhaps it is the same reason why I'm not a fan of rap music. Being a former music snob one would think I'd be open to it, but I'm not. I can't say that I've really tried either. I haven't gone out and bought anything country, I don't watch the music channels, or listen. I don't think I need to since I'm exposed to it every so often. It's pretty much everywhere.
It's sort of like American Idol. You don't need to watch the show to know who is on it; it's common knowledge. I feel the same about country music. I could not tell you one note of a Tim McGraw or Trace Atkins song, yet I know who they are. I couldn't tell you anything about Faith Hill or Tanya Tucker but I could pick them out in a crowd.
Maybe it's the twang of the music that drives me nuts. Perhaps the steel guitar strumming or the banjo. I'm not sure that's totally it, because I like ZZ top and K.D. Lange. I love Johnny Cash and I think Lyle Lovett is a true talent. I think Emmy Lou Harris has the prettiest singing voice I've heard in my life. I dig Willie Nelson and even George Jones. Perhaps because Lange, Cash, Lovett etc are real country to me, not churned out pop garbage.
So I guess the reality is I despise pop country. Well surely anything that is called New Country is a huge turn off too. It's all pop pre-fabricated top 40 garbage. The lyrics do nothing for me, and the music is boring.
What I also don't like about New country is how everything is patriotic (you know that Lee Greenwood song that's been paraded out for every event for the last 20 years). Everything is an American Flag. It plays upon the whims of those that the Christan Republican Conservative base adhere too as well. Am I stereotyping?
Yep.

Truth: The Branding Hero
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Is it me or what? I have never ever been a fan of local spokesman for any brand, product, or company. I just don't care. In fact it bugs me to no end.
Mascots I don't mind, like lizards or cartoon characters. However regular people just bother me. I'm talking about the used car salesman that shows up on TV every Saturday yelling about some new sale. I'm talking about the plumbing van that drives by and the picture of the owner is on the side, as if I'm supposed to trust him. I'm talking about the local carpet salesmen who shouts about a two for one deal this weekend only - even though he's on 52 weekends of the year.
Are these ads really effective? For me they are not. Never have been, never will be. What they are though is very annoying. I'll go out of my way to avoid these places. Sorry.
They either must be effective to some extent or someone has them snowed. Some marketing salesman tries to sell advertising, and the only way they can do it is by propping up the businessman's ego by making him a star. That has to be it!
What businessman is going to say not to having their face plastered all over the place on television? Their all over the radio? Their face on billboards? It's pretty much a done deal.
Then again those ads are so badly written and produced, there's not much choice in the matter.
Just know for 5lbs of coffee I'll beat your best deal. We do good work. Come on down.

Chicks: It's A Chick Thing
I had some guy (male, men, dudes) friends who could not attend a softball practice on Mother's Day. Why? Because their wives wouldn't let them leave the house. They gave them the guilt trip. The evil eye. The wrath of Khan. It just wasn't going to happen. Sad. I don't even know these guys anymore!
I got scolded for having practice on Mother's Day from some other ladies to begin with. How could I do that on Mother's Day? Well unless you are spending the entire day with your mom, what's the problem? Mother's Day is nice...warranted...fine. Do something for the moms in your life...spend time with them, celebrate...etc. But is a couple of hours going to kill you?
Some of the guys said "us married guys have to attend to Mother's Day". The truth is, married guys showed up to the practice. The married guys with understanding wives!
Do you wives really want to have to give your husbands a guilt trip for Mother's Day? Aren't you the least bit embarrassed? What's up...is that day really different than any other day? Chicks have this thing for Mother's Day, Anniversaries, and Birthdays. Birthdays are week long celebrations. Anniversaries are death wishes. And Mother's Day is off limits to anything and everything.
Men if you treat your women right, they won't go off on these mandated celebrations. If you treat them right 365 days a year they will be reasonable and logical to your requests. Giving a little of your time will go along away in their understanding.
ok who am I kidding?

Truth: I Can Walk On Water
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. When I was in grade school the priest was talking to our class about something. I forget what it was for exactly. Perhaps it was preparation for graduation or confirmation. It had to be 7th or 8th grade. Anyways as he was giving his informal sermon, he mentioned how great Jesus was that he could walk on water. He then asked us rhetorically if any of us could walk on water. No one raised their hand.
I did though.
He then looked at me rather perplexed, then said something to the effect of "really, you can walk on water?". I then said "ICE".
He was dumbfounded.
My classmates chuckled.
Quickly the priest said, "why yes you can walk on water then. You can walk on ice. That's because the love of Jesus is in all of you. There's is a little bit of Jesus in all of us that we can strive for".
It may have happened sooner, but from that point on I've always questioned anything told to me by someone in authority.

Liberty - Low On The Truth Meter
Op Ed pieces have been around for quite some time. Are they really any different than bloggers or you? The media will have you think so. Even the Commander in Chief recently said this "that the media environment bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank that high on the truth meter."
Oh Really? If you compare a blog to the associated press in terms of news, then you have a point. But does anyone really do that in their right mind? If you compare bloggers to Op Ed pieces in the Wall Street Journal or New York Times, well it's just a matter of word usage then is it not?
You see bloggers are you. If you read them, respond to them, write them you are a blogger. Blogs only exist because someone is willing to read them. Op Ed pieces are the same way. You know the old saying, opinions are like _____, everyone has one. So to attack blogs (aka the media environment), is to attack truth seekers, free speech, free thinkers. You can't stop that.
So if my retort to the Commander in Chief is that he is lying, or indeed in fact attacking you then you may say I am stretching the truth. I am really stretching the truth? Do you think the left wingers who routinely attack this page and my words would say I'm high on the truth meter? Their truth would say no.
Part of the reason people can't stand MSNBC or FOx News is because they don't deliver just the news. They deliver news bits along with their personal commentary. Why can't we leave that for the Op Ed pieces and blogs? Remember when TV channels used to give an Op/Ed piece at the end a newscast? Ahh the good old days. Now they don't do it, because every piece is a personal message from the teleprompter reader. It's like watching the Olympics every freaking night. I don't want to hear Rachel Madow or Chris Matthews talk about Sarah Palin!
It's funny how the Commander in Chief put so much money into the social media (Twitter and Facebook) to get elected; now says the media environment exposes us with too much content. Yeah we know feeling. Can this guy ever stop with the doublespeak?

Truth: First Online Impressions
Most people will tell you that when they first see someone, that they don't judge them based on looks. That they don't judge them based on what they are wearing, or how they are acting.
Do you really believe that? I certainly don't.
While it sounds noble and perhaps the right thing to do, I find it almost impossible to not judge a book by it's cover. Now that doesn't mean one can't try, or one can't change their mind about someone after they get to know more about them. That's obviously the case and should be the rule of thumb.
So when you see a profile on Facebook or any other social networking site, what do you think of when you see that person's pictures or comments?
When I see someone holding a drink in every photo at some bar, I know they party. But do they really? Maybe...maybe not (not that I really care), but that's the window they are revealing to the world. A prospective employer may care. A future child or grandkid may care. An attorney who's looking for information may care.
There's a friend on Facebook who dresses scantily in all of her photos. Yet her comments are all about how she's sick of men hitting on her, and how there are perverts online. She gets very mad and angry (so it seems), and threatens to drop anyone that flirts with her or asks her out. Do you get my drift?
Do first online impressions really matter?
I think they do matter. Now whether they are important or not, that's a different story. By the same token are people really telling you the truth? Are people just showing a glimpse of their lives that they want? There are very many boring and uninteresting folks out there, who easily promote that blandness online.

Truth: Ha$te Makes Pa$te
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Houston I have a problem.
I'm usually very good about throwing things away. With the exception of products that are used on my body. I've mentioned before that shampoo and body wash bottles accumulate like crazy. It's like they are rabbits. I have a little in each bottle, just in case I run out. I'm afraid to throw them away.
Recently I discovered that I didn't pay attention [Note to self - start paying attention] to the growing toothpaste tube fiasco that's taking over my life.
I thought maybe, just maybe I had two tubes at most. It's not the case.
So why do I do this? Because I'm lazy, or stubborn, or I don't want to waste any toothpaste. The truth is, I like new things. And struggling with an old tube just takes too much time to mess with. When a new one can do the trick just right. [What would Freud say?]
There's an element of resourcefulness to this. At least that's what I'm telling myself. That's what I'm telling you. I'll never be without toothpaste because I always have a little.
It's like having those canned goods in your pantry for years on end without really noticing. But you know it's still there in case you need it. Is this really good for the economy? One has to wonder.
What the hell is wrong with me?
Matt Nokes
I'm usually very good about throwing things away. With the exception of products that are used on my body. I've mentioned before that shampoo and body wash bottles accumulate like crazy. It's like they are rabbits. I have a little in each bottle, just in case I run out. I'm afraid to throw them away.
Recently I discovered that I didn't pay attention [Note to self - start paying attention] to the growing toothpaste tube fiasco that's taking over my life.
I thought maybe, just maybe I had two tubes at most. It's not the case.

Truth: $moke And Mirror$
Every time I hear a news story that the unemployment rate took a turn for the better, I just don't believe it. Why? Because it usually comes from the Whitehorse press secretary. Usually he's spewing about the economic impact policies are putting it. What else is he going to say? If it's not good news that is spun, he is blaming the past administration.
I don't believe it. I never believe it.
I know too many people out of work.
I see too many layoffs for schools, fireman, and police.
I see crime on the up rise.
I see people foreclosing on homes, and it is not stopping anytime soon.
I see quite a few government jobs on the up rise though.
As people don't save, they also don't spend...because the money is just not there. There's no money to pay off debts, loans, and bills. There's no money to invest, to give to charity like before .
It's bad. However is it doom and gloom?
Yes it is.
There tends to be a 30 to 35 year swing every time the economy goes in the tank since 1912 (the year the Federal Reserve started printing money out of thin air). That's a nice little cycle, but how do you bet the bank on it? How do you know that things will get better? Just because it can't get any worse?
Well that's just hope.
Until we see REAL CHANGE in the congress, and they way business is done, nothing will really change. Sure you'll see some perks and a rebound...but then what? Those of us that will retire in 30 years on the next rebound will be screwed.
Is timing really everything?
Let's break the cycle and go back to a sound money system. Let's let capitalism work itself out. Let's let the market dictate how things should be priced. Let's get the government out of bed with big business. Let's start exporting. Get out of NAFTA. Get of the United Nations. Let's start collecting on our foreign loans and close up shop there.

Truth: The Concept of Divorce
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. When I was a kid if someone got divorced it was a very big deal. In fact people thought it was like a crime or some really out of this world thing. Only Hollywood types did that. If we knew anyone that was divorced, it was like that had some disease or something. There just wasn't that many people around who were, or so it seemed.
Now everyone is divorced one or two times at least. I know several people who have been divorced 3 or 4 times. It's not Larry King or Liz Taylor territory, but still seems high. But really is it? Is it really a high number?
I know three people that are going through a divorce right now. They were all in abusive relationships and wanted out. One for infidelity. Does that make them respect marriage less for leaving their marriages, or their marriages failing? No, I don't think it does at all. I don't think it reflects poorly on the person if the reasons are correct and justified. Often you'll have to respect the person for getting the courage to leave.
I know a couple of other people who were in long term relationships that ended. The same things applies without the legalities and mess of a divorce.
The whole concept of divorce is mind boggling to me. I guess you go into a marriage thinking it will last, but the truth is it may not. Things change, people change. People make mistakes. People are stupid. There are a ton of reasons.

Liberty: High From Above
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. When I am in a plane and looking out the window to the ground below, I can't help but notice how complex it is down there.
I look at all the roads, the buildings, the complete infrastructure and it blows me away. The amount of hard work involved, design, the materials is nothing short of incredible when it comes right down to it.
I also look at all the cars driving, and each car has a story inside. Where is that person going? What are they listening to?
I see houses, and each house has a story. How many kids in that house have lived their lives there. How many pets are sleeping.
I look at the magnitude of the land, and how impossible it must have been for the settlers and explorers to traverse there at one time. How did they do it?
The perspective of the world from an airplane window changes things. You see the world isn't flat, it's deep and complex.
I've always looked in awe at the landscape, the buildings, the life down below.
Pretty friggin sweet and humbling at the same time. The hustle and bustle. The life. The energy. The beauty. Babies being born, people making love, people living, laughing, music being played. It's all happening. It always does, but when you are on a plane there's a different perspective.

Sports: Hunting TV Shows
I have to tell you. I don't get hunting shows that are shown on Fox Sports or ESPN. They make no sense to me. A bunch of fat guys waiting and walking around some forest or jungle shooting a defenseless animal.
Now I am not against hunting at all. I think it is great. I think it is cool. I think it is overall a very good thing that most people should do, or at least try. I support all hunting for food.
I don't really have a huge problem with hunting for sport either, other than how cool is it you get to get an animal on some farm that's enclosed by a a fence? I mean it's kind of like a softball player saying he's a good athlete just because he plays baseball. Or a bowler throwing a perfect game thinking he is now somewhat special. Sorry, not a big deal there pal.
I am certainly not against bow or gun hunting either. However the TV shows are weird to me. I've watched enough of them to really know they do not show you how to hunt. They just show you the hunt, which if you aren't really a part of isn't that exhilarating to watch on TV. I don't get excited or interested seeing someone else nail a zebra from 100 yards in Kenya.
Next time you are surfing the TV, and you come across one of these shows on the weekend make sure you listen to how heavy these overweight guys are breathing. Know it's probably the most entertaining piece of the show.
Can you say boring? So why am I commenting on something I don't care about? Because I want to know why you watch this stuff. what do you learn? How is it entertaining? At least with fishing shows they will show you what bait to use and how to throw a line.

Truth: Hardly Working
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Am I the only one who thinks kids today, and I'm talking about teenagers don't have it so hard? Is it me, or does it seem like they don't value a good work ethic because they don't experience it?
For the most part since there are exceptions, it seems kids want things handed to them. They have this sense of entitlement about things.
Through high school and college I had a bunch of odd jobs. Tough manual jobs. Dirty jobs. Tedious and repetitive jobs. Jobs where I was exposed to chemicals all day long. Dangerous jobs with chemicals. Jobs where I had to drive in bad parts of Detroit to deliver things. Jobs where I worked 10 to 12 hours a day. I worked mid nights. I worked with paint. I worked with trash. I washed dishes. I worked for tips. I worked for minimum wage. I worked weeks without a day off.
Granted we always want our kids to have it better than we did. However there has to be something said about a good work ethic. When 60% of the workforce today is white collar, it stands to reason a real good work ethic, when you use your hands and back is going by the wayside. Is it just me who thinks this?
I sound like an old guy complaining about the youth of America.

Truth: Fogetaboudit
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I've never met a chip I didn't like. Good stuff right here. Cheese on chips? Ingenius.
.
Do you remember when chips were just regular? When I was a kid we used to get SUPERIOR potato chips. They came in a blue bag and they were one flavor.
Now there are probably 100 different kinds of chips...flavors...cuts...and styles.
But why? Is it because we want those kind of chips for variety...or is it because the marketers have deemed it so? Why have the sheeple fallen prey to the many types of chips? It aint good for ya.
The market dictates the success...but the marketers push it. Like candy to a baby. Like drugs to an addict. Do you fall for the gimmicks? I have.
Did you know southeastern Michigan is number one in sales for chips and snacks? I have a friend in the chip business...it's gold in them parts he says.. Hostess who makes King Dongs and Ho Ho's has also Michigan as it's number one client. Michigan is also the FATTEST state in the nation. It's number one in unemployment and foreclosures.
Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not. Then how do you explain the fever for a flavor of a Pringle?

Sports: The Voice of My Summer
Voice of Summer
"Thank you for sneaking your transistors under the pillow as you grew up loving the Tigers," Mr. Harwell said in his sign-off as the full-time voice of the Tigers in 2002. "Now God has a new adventure for me."
With the passing of former Detroit Tiger radio announcer Ernie Harwell I could not help but think of the many nights I would listen to baseball on the radio. During the summer when I was young, I'd put my radio on next to my bed, and listen to the Tigers game as I went to sleep. It was a nightly ritual to put the game on. Hearing his voice along with the great Paul Carey was just part of my obligatory but fun routine. If the Tigers were on the west coast it was even better! I could then stay up late...or so I thought. I'd sit at the edge of my bed, and when Steve Kemp came to bat I would wish for a home run. I remember once when it happened after my wish, and I went crazy. My wish had came true!
I really have no real reaction to all of the acclaim Mr. Harwell is getting on how he was such a nice and humble man. How there will never be one like him again etc. To be honest, I can't say that I care about any of that stuff. It does not have any bearing on what he means to me. Although it's so refreshing to hear nothing but good things about a good man To me though, he was blast from my past who entertained me and helped me live out some youthful daydreaming. I had the chance to meet him a few times, but I declined. He came to my place of work once and gave a speech, but I didn't approach him. You see he wasn't on the radio calling a game, and that's where I needed him to be. That's where he will always be in my head. I didn't want to tarnish my memory. I'm weird I know. I'll have to dig out some cassette tapes I have buried somewhere when I taped some of his play by play.
I hold many things from my youth in high regard, due to the tradition and innocence of it all. That's a big deal to me and why the joy of baseball and summer go hand in hand.
There are two odd occasions that I strictly remember when listening to Ernie and Paul. Once I was in my backyard probably at age 14. I had a boom box at the time. I put the Tiger game on that box in the garage very loud. I remember sitting there on lawn chair thinking that listening to baseball in the summer was the best. I don't know why, but I'll never forget that. I remember as if it were yesterday.
Another time I was driving with my godfather up in northern Michigan, and he was looking for the game on the radio. He finally found it. He parked the truck near the river, put on the radio, pulled his baseball cap over his eyes, and put his head back. The baseball game was on and it was time to take a break. My brother and I went to the river where we parked to play, but we could hear the game from the truck.
That was summer. Who could ever ask for more?

Chicks: Women Behaving Badly
"I'm strong willed, independent, and outspoken, I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle - but if you can't handle me at my worst then you sure don't deserve me at my best."
"Women behaving rarely make history"
If I see these quotes one more time I'm going to throw up. Enough already! How about an ounce of originality for once?
These have to be some of the lamest quotes I have ever seen. Then again are they really that different than "I am woman, hear me roar?". Ugh!
I don't know..I don't get it. I don't understand.
You see I don't discriminate when it comes to chicks (unless it's talking sports to them). When it comes to getting work done, doing work, respect...etc. I have no issue with members of the opposite sex. It's only an issue when they make a point of it.
I have no issues with any race or ethnicity until hey make a point of it, that they want special attention. I hate the special attention people want just because they are.
If you want to be noticed, then be original. Say something important. Do something important. Be nice. Otherwise, shut up.

Truth: I Hate Book Stores
So I walk into this book store. Immediately I'm barraged by sales, magazine racks, the smell of good coffee (Thank God I don't drink that junk), and sappy mellow music.
Instantly my stress level maxes out.
Scurrying about past me is some liberal college student making extra money on the side working there, while trying to portray how intellectually advanced they are. All the while of course dressed like they just walked out of a vintage clothing store. Actually there are 5 of these types walking around at least. Suddenly I hear James Taylor playing and wonder how many own a Volkswagen van?
I need to find a cookbook for a gift. Where do I go? Ahhh the signs. Yes the signs will lead me. So I go to the cookbook/food/health/beauty section. To get there I have to pass more cerebral types who are carrying 5 books and are struggling just to breath. You see the outward smart ones nourish their minds, but never take care of their bodies. It's true.
A worker asks me if I need help. I said no, I need a book. Snobbishly (is that a word?) they take me to the row and section I want. They ask if there is anything in particular I'm looking for. In most situations, I would say yes. But I said no.
Why did I say no? So I could get out of there. I didn't want to speak to them, they bug me. Darn smarty pants. Freakin hippies.
You see book stores contain the fountains of knowledge in every row. Each book is a spigot that I want to tap. Instantly at everyone I want to drink from this giant array of flowing facts and fiction.
But no!
It ticks me off to no end knowing I know nothing in comparison to what is to be known. I get angry that I can't read fast enough. I get lost in the FACT I have no time to read what I need.

Truth: The Boy On The Rock
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. For the last 10 years about, I always drive by this house on the way to or home from work. This house is on a corner of a busy street. It's a very average house, with one noticable landmark. There is this very big rock on the corner of the house. The rock is probably 4 feet tall, by 4 feet wide. It's gray and probably weighs more than Oprah.
Not everyday, but many days there's is this boy who sits on the rock. I say boy, because I don't know his age. I think he is probably in his late teens. I can't tell what his age is by just driving by. He sits on the rock, and watches cars go by, and he waves at the cars. Sometimes people honk their horns too.

I can't tell what his age is by just driving by. He sits on the rock, and watches cars go by, and he waves at the cars. Sometimes people honk their horns too.
Why does this boy do this? I don't wonder really. I don't need to know. The boy has some sort of mental handicap or perhaps even Down's Syndrome. I'm not sure, because it doesn't really matter.
Here's what I know though. No matter what I'm thinking about my dreaded drive to work, or if I'm having a bad day driving home...when I see the boy I stop my thoughts and think about him. I realize my day aint so bad, and that I'm really not having a bad day or tough time. I realize everytime that I'm an idiot for needed this reminder. That it takes this sweet kid who is oblivous to my existence to make me see things are ok.
So this boy on the rock always does something for me. Someday I will do something for him. Maybe there's a boy on the rock near where you live too? If not, just know there is one waving.
