The Speed Need

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.  I feel the need, the need for speed.  I've gotten one speeding ticket in my life.  I was turning out of a subdivision and I was trying to get ahead of the quickly approaching traffic.  It was a 35 mph zone, I was going 45.  Some cop was sitting there just waiting for a speeder.  Sure enough, he nailed me. I think it ended up being $60 or so....but that was 14 years ago.

I didn't really notice I was speeding either because I punched it to move up and not get rear ended. I didn't fight it because it was true. It still ticked me off, since I can't stand tickets of any kind. I think they are just statist money grabs meant to keep officials and services types in their jobs.  But hey, that's the system...whatever.

So it always makes me wonder...Wouldn't it be cool to have stretches of freeway, that were listed as Any Speed Zones?  You would veer off on this stretch and you could go as fast as you long as the person in front of you was a mile ahead, and the person behind you was a mile behind.  Let's say 10 miles of just pure rock and roll pedal to the medal speed.

Now who wouldn't do that, or take advantage of it?  Think about the amount of fuel being used.  Think about the increased wear and tear on cars.  Think about the amount of time people would save by getting somewhere quicker.  Now that's productive.  It would certainly bolster the economy and anything auto services related.

What's that you say?  More death, injury, higher insurance claims?
