It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I realized today I am one of those people. While Christmas shopping I was at one store for 2 hours.
2 hours!
I didn't know it was 2 hours. I got engulfed in the whole frenzy of shopping. I was in a bookstore. I was looking at things that interested me. I didn't carry them around, I just made a mental note of where they were and went back to them. I had this desire to visit the entire store to make sure I would not miss anything.
Along the way I noticed different sections for all the books. I also noticed that the Fiction area was the largest. That bugged me of course, since I think too many people dabble in make believe and have no clue what the hell is going on around them. No, I'm not bashing fiction. I am just observing how large the section is.
Then I was in the baseball section...and kept picking up books and reading through them. I was thinking how much I would love to read these books. I was realizing at the same time I will never have the time to read these books even if I bought them. There's something cool about a good book in your hands. That concept embraced me too while I was perusing. No, I'm not anti-ereader either. I just know the value of a good book. Ereaders are for quick books, reference, blogs (Hey you can get this blog on Kindle!), and magazines, and throwaways. The classics, always a hard cover.
Anyways I usually walk around aimlessly for hours in a store not knowing what to purchase. But this time I found what I wanted quickly, and for great prices. I probably could have shopped for 20 minutes when it came right down do it. But no, I was one of those people.
I was a consumer. Not a producer. But a consumer. Not a giver, but a taker. Embarrassed. Ashamed. Lost time, lost value. Yeah so I took in some books...some ambiance of the nerd populace in the store. A bit of regret.
Walking out the store I realized...you know...I was just had. I just got hoodwinked. No I did not waste more money on things - I'm cheap that way. I wasted time. Time wasted! Oh...I could have been at a monster truck rally when it comes right down to it. Oh the humanity!
What am I a chick?
