It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The other day I am listening to one of the coolest cats in the world (that's planet for you lefties out there) on the radio - Dennis Miller (man crush stuff, you wouldn't understand).
Dennis rants about some dude who called in complaining how he get screwed over by the system. Some company railroaded him or something. It was sad stuff to be sure. Annoying too at the same time. Dennis finally said, "Look dude (I'm paraphrasing), you are an old dude and about to die. You want your final thoughts to be negative about some company?"
He's right.
I'm hell bent on identifying what it is that bugs me, but to bask in it...that's kind of dumb. I mean you can be annoyed or you can be annoying. There are many things that annoy me. I know that is surprising. There are many things that annoy you too.
So what do you do? Do you bask in the annoyance of it all ad nauseum? Do you ignore it?
They say stress gets things done. What does annoyance get done? When you are annoyed at people who lick their fingers at the dinner table in front of you, that could make them stop. At least, they will know it is annoying...hopefully. So there is good in being annoyed. Only if it changes the outcome.
I like to smack my gum. I know it annoys people. They tell me to stop, I don't care. They become more annoyed. So their effort in telling me they are annoyed really does nothing, but make them more annoyed.
So what do you get then? Guess you need to find a way to just LET IT GO. Let it go man! Let it go!

"I like to smack my gum. I know it annoys people. They tell me to stop, I don't care."
ReplyDeleteAnd this after you get done telling us that you show annoyance to get someone to stop the annoying bahavior? Hmmmm, if it bothered me I'd start doing something that annoyed you. Turnabout is fair play!
