It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I was thinking that if I parked not in the exact same spot every day, that I could save gas or mileage on the car. Everyday I park in the same spot.
Well I noticed I parked in the exact same spot..give or take an inch. For the sake of argument, let's say I parked in the exact same spot everyday. I wondered if I parked 12 inches less than the previous spot every day, how much I would be saving over the course of a year.
I gave myself 5 days off and used 360 days for the formula. Parking in a spot 12 inches closer instead of forward would save me 30 ft in the course of a year.
That's 30 feet of less gas. 30 feet of less wear and tear. 30 feet of less time in the car and more productive doing something else.
That comes out to 0.0058 of a mile. Perhaps not much, but it could make the difference in filling up your tank one more time, or getting your oil changed, or turning in a lease.

It's the little things in life that matter.

"It's the little things in life that matter."
ReplyDeleteTrue, but this isn't little; it isn't even tiny; it's inconsequential!! If you're really going to try and justify it by citing miles driven etc... then don't drive one day a week; combine your wasted trips to the store, etc...; or carpool. Then it might actually make a difference.
